State & Illinois

Project Type: Retail & Residential
Location: Chicago, Illinois

This multi-use project is designed to provide a very strong counterpoint to the neighboring residential towers. The base of the building is an exposed concrete frame infilled with translucent channel glass to enclose the parking floors. There are two floors of retail, primarily restaurant spaces with a projecting bay at the second floor to maximize visibility. Above the base is a steel and glass enclosed structure of luxury condominiums with expansive units and extraordinarily large outdoor balcony spaces. The balconies are framed by an exposed steel grillage that allows their free-form plans to sinuously enclose the tower.

State & Illinois contains thirty-five condominium residences, seventy parking spaces and 20,000 square feet of retail space.
